Fiber dramatically outruns copper. HDMI and single-link DVI fiber extenders reach up to 3,300 ft (1,000 m), while dual-link DVI reaches up to 984 ft because of the higher bandwidth it carries. Buy for the actual cable run, plus slack for routing.
Multimode fiber (typically 50/125 µm) is common and cost-effective for runs within a building or campus. Single-mode fiber supports the longest distances. Confirm which fiber the extender requires, and whether it needs one strand or multiple strands, before you order cable.
